Much Ado About a Fabulous Show!

One of my favorite lines from Much Ado About Nothing:

My uncle says something about how he hopes I find a husband and I reply (as Beatrice):
(and I'm totally doing this from memory right now, because I am totally off-book, because we totally OPEN TOMORROW!)

"Not 'til God make men of some other metal than earth! Would it not grieve a woman to be overmastered by a piece of valiant dust? To make an account of her life to a clod of wayward marl? No Uncle, Adam's sons are my brethren! And truly, I hold it a sin to match in my kindred."

Now, I think that one day I will get married. And I don't hate men. But that line is just so clever and sassy with its literature/Biblical reference.  And coming out of the day and age Shakespeare wrote (or the 1950's, when we are setting the play), that took a strong woman to say she wouldn't get married, didn't need to get married, and could live happily without a man.

You go, Beatrice.

This show has really meant a lot to me.  I come from a long line of women playing sassy roles on stage. My Gran did such roles as Opal in "Everybody Loves Opal", my mom (a drama teacher) was all sorts of different roles - mostly Southern sassy ones. And my cousin even played the same role of Beatrice at her college. I feel like there is a lot to live up to.

(This is also, as I keep getting sappy over, my last semester. Have I mentioned that enough?)

And look how precious we are.

I've made a ton of new friends, had a fabulous time, and checked a few things off my To Do List. Tomorrow we open! By my troth, I hope it shall be grand, and I know it shall be merry!
